Advice to Students from the Guy in Charge

Here are some of the philosophies that guide UC's director of admissions.

On test-taking: "I always recommend that you take both the SAT and the ACT tests, then re-take the test you did better on."

On exploring your options: "Even if you have your heart set on attending UC, and even if you know you'll be accepted, I still recommend that you look at all your options. Narrow your list down to six or seven schools and visit their campuses. You'll know almost immediately, when you set foot on campus, if that school feels right for you. After visiting and reviewing your options, apply to three or four. I think it's important to know you have choices and that you have chosen the best one. Of course, I hope it's UC, but I'm more interested in educating students as good decision makers who know, when they do enroll at UC, that they have made their best choice, not just their only choice."

On senior year (for high school seniors): "Don’t forget to 'finish the race' -- study hard and do well all the way to graduation. You’ll be much better prepared to begin your college studies and your first term grades will likely be better."
